Knowledge Bowl

The 5th and 6th grade teams did super well.

Dax and Seth both participated in Knowledge Bowl this year. The topic was Geography. Mom helped run Knowledge Bowl with her friend Diane, so each week she taught the kids what they needed to know for the competition. Luckily, Mom had done Knowledge Bowl with Mark when he did Geography, so she had some things already prepared.

Dax's competition came first. There were two teams (one full of 5th graders, and one full of 6th graders). Dax was the co-team captain with Korbin, and they lead their team to 4 straight wins in the competition. Dax did great and answered many questions. Both teams (Dax's and the 5th graders) placed in the top 10 teams in the district, which is the highest possible honor.

Dax's team was made of his 6th grade friends.

Dax is the speediest on the buzzer!

Seth competed the next week. He was the team captain for his team, and he led them to victory 4 times as well. His team scored a lot of points, including 300 consecutive at one point, and they placed in the top 10 teams in the district for 3rd/4th grades. It was Seth's first time competing and we were so proud of him.

Seth's team had his buddies on it, too!

Seth answered so many questions.

The Nature of Color

We were invited to visit the NHMU and a new exhibit called the Nature of Color. We love this museum, so we were excited to go check out the next exhibit, as well as explore through our old favorites.

The color displays were fun!

Dad enjoyed the exhibit.

This was our favorite part. You could direct the colors by waving your arms.

The screen also had fun pixels.

We had a great time with this new exhibit.

Mark found an ancient brother.

The earthquake exhibit is our favorite.

We also love the dinosaurs!

Mom and Dax in St. George!

Mom and Dax love getting ice cream together.

Dax always ends up with a few baseball tournaments in St. George, so he and Mom get to spend some great time together. Seth usually comes along, too, but he had to stay behind for Knowledge Bowl this trip, and Mark had high school games, so it was just Dax and Mom.

Dax played really well and his team ended up winning the championship! He got a ring, which is his favorite award.

Dax's Baron's team!

Dax loves when he wins rings.

We had to get ice cream to celebrate.

We also went on A LOT of new adventures in St. George. The way his schedule worked out, we had a lot of free hours to explore. Dax was a good sport to try new parks and find a hidden arrow, but his favorite things to do is see birds. So we went to a new park where he got to feed some ducks and a swan. Then we also swung over to our favorite nature center to see the birds there, too.

It was a great weekend! Mom and Dax loved being together.

Dax and a few of his baseball friends played at the pool one afternoon.

It was a nice start to the weekend.

We visited this navigation arrow hidden near St. George.

Dax doesn't always love to feed or pet animals, so it was fun to see him feed the ducks.

He built up his courage to feed the swan.

We loved this new park that we found.

And we were surprised at the coot's feet.

Mom spotted two roadrunners in a field as they drove past.

Dax always asks to come to the Tonaquint Nature Center.

We saw this cormorant in the tree.

Golden Eyes were all over.

The wood ducks are always beautiful to see.

We even spotted a turtle this time.

We ended our weekend with a trip to Roy's!

Day at the Zoo

We love going to the zoo!

Since the boys were very little, one of the adventures we have always done when there is a day off from school it to visit the zoo. So when the zoo announced that they were going to have $2 Tuesday tickets, I grabbed some so that the boys and I could enjoy the zoo.

Luckily, the weather was mostly okay for February. We bundled up and were grateful for masks because they kept our faces warm. The wind was blowing pretty hard, but the zoo sits in a bowl, so we felt mostly protected. Some of the animals weren't out like the giraffes and elephants because of the chilly wind, though.

One of the lionesses was having dinner.

The baby gorilla was so cute!

Seth posed by every statue.

The highlight of the day was the polar bear. He was swimming back and forth right next to the window, and we watched him for a long time. The grizzly bears were also out running around, so the bears put on quite a show.

We also enjoyed watching the baby gorilla and a newborn monkey in the reptile house. He was just a few days old and was so tiny.

We are such big animal lovers that a visit to the zoo is always a blast! We had a lot of fun and it was a great way to spend our day off from school.

The polar bear kept swimming right up to the window. It was awesome!

Seth loves polar bears!

The boys really like the red pandas.

The leopard was pacing around.

Look at that tiny monkey just barely holding on!

Yes, the boys still love riding the carousel!

Fun in February

February was full of basketball games. Mark, Dax, and Seth were all playing during January and February this year, but luckily, only a few had conflicts. Mark put together a team of friends and played in the Lehi league with Dad as coach. Unfortunately, Mom didn't get a picture of the team this year because Mark missed the last few games for baseball. Once again, we finished first in our league going into the tournament. Unfortunately, the tournament dates clashed with baseball tryouts and games, so we forfeited our way out of the tournament.

Mark played and shot well this season.

Dax also had Dad as his coach. There was a boy that was taller than Randy on Dax's team, so Dax had a lot of fun feeding him the basketball. He was a great team leader, and had a lot of fun. Of course, Dax's team went undefeated, and didn't really play any close games.

Dax was the point guard.

Dax had a great team!

Seth played on a team with a few friends from school. This was the first time that one of our boys played basketball without Dad coaching, so it was a little weird. Seth was the standout player and when he sat down, his team definitely suffered. We were so proud of how well he handled and shot the ball. And Seth enjoyed playing with friends. But in the end, we decided, it's better if Dad just coaches!

Seth with his medal. He watched the Olympics a few too many times!

Seth's team!

We loved watching Seth lead his team.

Grandma and Grandpa Daniels came down to stay with us for a weekend. They watched some basketball games and played games with us. We also introduced them to Brooker's and Blox. We always enjoy when they visit.

We laughed pretty hard at Telestrations.

We went to breakfast with Grandma and Grandpa, and Dax got this huge burrito.

We love spending time with Grandma and Grandpa.

Brooker's is the best!

The boys have to take a mad picture here.

Mom with her mom!

Grandma Ockey's birthday is in February and we really wanted the boys to learn about her and the wonderful mom that she was. So on her birthday, we ordered Chinese takeout, Dad made rice pudding, and we delivered bread to some neighbors. We also shared lots of memories about Grandma Ockey!

Grandma Ockey loved Chinese food.

Dad and his mom loved rice pudding.

It was so fun delivering bread to neighbors.

Here are a few other fun things that happened in February. It was a short, but full month.

Mom went on Studio 5 and work make-up. All of the boys in the house freaked out.

We enjoyed watching the Olympics.

The boys competed in Federation and AIM and did very well!

We really hoped the Bengals would win in the Super Bowl. They didn't, but we enjoyed the party anyway.

Dax and his Deacons Quorum went to the Family History Center and took this fun picture!
