Family Rules with BYUtv

Our opening scene!

We've had some pretty unique opportunities and even a few paid vacations as a result of our website, but we never expected the summer we had. Natalie has a contact with the Studio 5 lady on KSL. She happens to host a show on BYUtv called Family Rules. Basically, they follow a family around for a few days with cameras to see what makes them successful. She decided that we could be a good family to follow. We could hardly believe that we were going to do a TV show, so we didn't dare tell anyone.

As the day drew closer, we weren't really sure what to expect. We knew that we were receiving a fee for hosting a camera crew and host for twelve hours on two consecutive days. We also knew that we would be doing outdoor activities like biking, hiking, and fishing, but we had no idea what it would be like.

Luckily, we had a really great crew. The lady in charge worked with Natalie to get the details just right. The sound guy was really fun with kids. The main camera guy suffered all of Dad's unsufferable questions about his work and equipment. We especially enjoyed our host, Yahosh Bonner, who is a pretty famous figure in the Church right now. It was fun working with him, and he made answering questions and being on adventures extra fun.

Seth got miked up every morning.

We had to stop and add cameras, or redo angles.

The cameras were always rolling.

Yahosh was so good with the boys.

Our house became a TV set.

Seth loved it! He got to be involved in behind the scenes TV.

We understand that this is a low-rated show on a very limited network, but we are still excited to see what they'll do with our footage. They took dozens of hours of video from multiple angles, and it will all be boiled down into about 20 minutes of television. Some of the activities that we did were: pond exploring, bike riding, bird watching, hiking, planning activities, gardening, frisbee, a picnic, a piano duet, and releasing butterflies. There were some other topics like Seth's heart, the Junior Ranger badges and books, the family books, nature bingo, kids photography, and the kids packing lunches. We even did this scene where we packed the van in a quick time lapse. It was really fun, but it won't air until October. Ever since we finished, we've been getting requests from the director for photos, quotes, and other information. We'll see how it goes.

We loved getting to know the people we were working with.

We got to share about our love for family and adventures.

Seth got to talk about his heart and how special it makes him.

We showed the crew lots of fun birds and animals.

This snake was another great sighting.

The best sighting was this muskrat trying to touch the tree leaves.

The boys loved talking sports with the host.

We did lots of activities with Yahosh.

We totally believe that Family Rules, so we are excited to see the show.
