Boston Day 4

The sunrise!

Our last day in Maine was mostly a driving day. But first, Mom wanted to go watch the sunrise, which is a popular thing to do. Up on Cadillac Mountain, the sun first touches the United States each day. Unfortunately, it does that at 4:49 AM this time of year. We had a reservation to drive up, and even though it was supposed to be rainy, we got up around 3:50 and headed up the mountain. We weren’t the only ones, either, as we found at least a hundred cars at the top of the mountain. It was unfortunately, too cloudy to see much, but we did get a nice sunny-side-up-egg picture of the sun.

Some of us stayed in the car.

This was about as bright as it got!

The view really is nice from the top of Cadillac Mountain.

Mark hung out with Mom. Dax and Seth stayed in the car. Dad mostly wandered around.

We barely survived.

Then we drove for six hours down to Springfield, Massachusetts, for the Basketball Hall of Fame. We got there about noon with only a short stop for breakfast. It was rainy and foggy most of the way. We enjoyed the Hall of Fame, mostly. Afterward, we ranked this hall of fame 2nd or 3rd of the three major sports we've visited. The boys enjoyed playing basketball on the court there. They had different baskets through the ages going all the way back to peach baskets where it all began. Then we explored each level. The museum had a lot of video interaction, and there were a few fun games that we played. There was plenty of memorabilia from past players, with a heavy emphasis on the WNBA and the NCAA. We didn't realize this was the basketball HOF and not the NBA HOF until we visited. One highlight was that Seth got to be on TNT with Chuck and Shaq. He did a great job of reading the teleprompter. We were surprised, though, that there was no plaque or bust for each of the players in the Hall.

It has been fun to visit all of the Hall of Fame's in the past year.

One of our favorites.

They had an open gym that was super fun.

The boys shot well.

Wow! We couldn't believe how large these NBA players' hands are.

Mark's fingers are half as long.

But everyone is as tall as Mugsy Rogues.

Giannis has quite a wingspan.

One of Mom's favorite players.

Yao-ch!

Seth is really liking Kobe right now, and there was a special exhibit about him.

Seth was a great announcer.

We had a fun time in the NBA Hall of Fame.

We grabbed lunch at Subway right in the same building. Then we dashed a few minutes into Connecticut before making the two hour drive to Fenway Park. We had a tour that we were really excited for. After picking up a few things from the shops, we met our tour guide. She took us into the stadium and showed us the bleachers. We saw the Red Ted seat, sat atop the Green Monster, and even visited the press box. Dad was so excited to hear all the Red Sox stories and histories. They even have a small museum at the end with Red Sox relics. We liked the Babe Ruth bat, the base Dave Roberts stole, and a collection of baseballs signed by every World Series winning team from 1920-2020. We spent almost as much time in the Red Sox Museum as we did on the tour. The boys (especially the biggest one) loved every minute.

After that, we stopped at the famous Tasty Burgers right across from the stadium. Then we headed to our hotel. Since the day started around 3:30, it seemed like it should end by 9:30 or so.

It was pure joy for these four as we walked through Fenway Park.

The security guard showed us his two rings.

We were in heaven!

We learned a lot about this historic place.

These are some of the original seats! Still being used.

On top of the Green Monster knowing we are sitting here tomorrow!

The view from the Press Box.

Mom's shirt matched the Fenway Green.

Ted Williams' seat.

All the players we watched all these years!

We ate at Tasty Burgers and loved it!
