Labor Day Camping

We love camping!
Laurie invited us to Soapstone Campground on the Mirror Lake Highway for Labor Day weekend. We usually avoid doing much on Labor Day because everything is so busy, but we decided to go along. We only stayed one night because Dad had missed a lot of meetings over the last few weeks and Mark was scheduled to be set apart as the First Counselor in the Deacons' Quorum Presidency.

After school we drove up to Kamas and ate at Hi-Mountain Drug, one of our favorite restaurants. The shakes, burgers, and fries were really good! Then we drove up and got camp set up. The parking spot was barely big enough to fit Laurie's motorhome, but we snuggled the van up close to the four-wheelers and almost fit.
The food at Hi Mountain is amazing!
It got chilly once the sun went down! Seth didn't mind in his shorts!
There was a lot of football being played, and stick baseball.
We were expecting Savannah and Ty to come up, so we played some games and hung around camp, but they never made it. Finally, we went to bed. The next morning Glen drove down to Kamas to see what was keeping Savannah and Ty. He found them at the gas station. They'd spent the night in the truck because they couldn't find or contact us and had driven up the wrong canyon.
We love playing games with Laurie inside!
We had a great evening by the fire with just a little worry for Ty and Savannah!
Mom made pancake breakfast and then we took a drive toward Big Elk Lake. We never made it, though. The road was six miles, and after the first four, it was so rough that we didn't want to push it any further. We did see a few ruffed-grouse, which was really cool.
We were so excited to see the ruffed grouse.
In the afternoon we decided to try our luck fishing at Teapot Lake. Dad is not a fan of fishing, but all our boys want to do is fish. It got a little overcast and rainy, and only Seth managed to pull in a fish. He is the least interested in fishing, and the most likely to catch a fish! We hustled back to the car in the rain, but everyone had a smile on their face.
Teapot lake is beautiful!
This was how Glen and Laurie fished! Ha ha!
Our boys want to catch a fish!
Ty and Savannah fished with us, too!
Seth is our lucky fisherman.
Dax loves roasting anything over the fire.
We had delicious s'mores before heading home.
We went back and packed up camp while the boys went four-wheeling with Glen, Ty, and Savannah. Then we cooked hotdogs over the fire. We didn't end up leaving until after eight o'clock, but it was a great way to get away for a day. And we made all our Church meetings, too.
