We got up early and made a short animal drive, but everything seemed pretty quiet. A few years ago, we started a new tradition of celebrating Seth’s birthday by having breakfast at the Pioneer Grill. We really enjoy the food, and it gives us a break from cereal and muffins. So we decided to keep this a new tradition at Grand Teton.

Breakfast was delicious. |

The Webbs joined us. |
After a hearty breakfast, we decided to do the walk along String Lake. It’s so pretty with the Tetons mirrored in the surface. The boys enjoyed throwing rocks. We even had a left-handed rock throwing contest, which Mom won.
String Lake is the best! |
Our next hike was called Phelps Lake Overlook. We’d done the hike to Phelps Lake a few years ago and were stunned by its beauty. This hike came up the other side and looked down on the lake from above. We found it to be just as beautiful from this angle as from the shore.

We are always excited for a new trail. |

The view was beautiful. |

Daniel and Alice joined us on the trail. |
We stopped at a pullout in the shade and ate up the rest of the lunch supplies that we’d brought. Then we made some of our favorite drives. Mark spotted a frog at Schwabacher, but we couldn’t find anything out Gros Ventre Road, and most of us fell asleep along the way. We ended up at the Visitor Center for a ranger program there in Moose.
Another food tradition is to get pizza at Dornan’s. This time, everyone enjoyed pizza, which is a small miracle.

We created a picture from a few years ago. See below. |

This is one of our favorite views of the Tetons. |

Mom and Dad are always happy in the national parks. |

Mark spotted this frog for Melanie. |

Mark with the yellow flowers--every year if we can! |
Mom loves the wildflowers. |

Everyone else was sleeping! |
We saved our favorite hike until the last night in the Tetons. The boys have full belief that Moose Ponds will never let them down. We’ve always seen something amazing on that hike, and they were sure this night would be the same. When we arrived, there was a female moose right there in the water. We watched here from around 75 yards for close to a half hour. Then Seth spotted a black bear way up on the hill. Of course, this just made the legend of Moose Ponds a little stronger!
We played at the cabin for a minute and some deer ran by! |
We love hiking to Moose Ponds! |
It was so fun to watch the moose in the pond. |
She was right by the trail. |
Mom takes a million pictures! |
She ate the entire time. |
We also spotted a bunch of marmots. |
The bear was way up high on the mountain! |
We spotted this elk with two babies on the way back to the cabin. |
The next morning before we headed home, we walked the Lakeshore Trail. It was a lovely morning stroll before we headed home. It was another epic trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
Such a pretty morning hike. |
Good bye until next time Grand Tetons! |
The best travel family ever! |
