Evanston Day 2

This morning we had breakfast at the hotel. Then we headed to a golf course called the Purple Sage. This was a first for Seth and Dax, though Mark has been golfing quite a lot lately. We got checked in and started our 9 holes. Mom and Seth enjoyed putting around the greens, while Dad, Dax, and Mark golfed very poorly along the fairways. Of course, we only remembered the really good shots we hit, so the day seemed pretty successful, and we had a lot of fun.
Dax did pretty well for his first time.

Driving the carts was the best part.

Dad was excellent!

Seth and Mom tried to find fun things to do--we aren't much for golfing.

Mark was great!

At least one person knew what he were doing.

We had a blast!

After lunch in the hotel, we went on our tour of the railyard. They have a huge retired rail station that they have refurbished and turned into a venue for weddings and other parties. It was cool, but we weren't really sure what we were doing there. The highlight, though, was the roundhouse. This was a semi-circular building that had 28 bays for trains. There was a large circular wheel that turned so that you could direct the trains into the bays. We each got to drive the electric wheel and try to line it up with the tracks, which was pretty cool.
Seth was goofing around with Dad.

They are restoring an old engine.

This was the roundhouse we got to turn.

You stood in this little booth and tried to line the tracks up.

It was a lot of fun!

Our crazy picture!

Dax tried to lift it. It was way heavier than he thought.

We stopped by to grab some pies for a treat.

We spent that late afternoon walking around downtown. There wasn't too much to see, but we did tour the depot, and we stopped at about five local parks, as well as small pond called the Greenway.

Checking out the downtown.
The greenway has a nice pond and walking trails.
We stopped by a fun park!
We walked through another old building!

There were a couple of swings in the middle of the square.
Seth got a little swimming in while Mark rested.

We were pretty tired and hot, and Mark wasn't feeling well, so we went back to the hotel and let him sleep while we watched the Olympics. Then we took a late dinner at Wendy's. Finally, we decided to walk through the state park and search for that moose again. But again, we were unsuccessful, though the walk was nice.
The bison were finally closer for viewing.

Hoping for a moose!

Mom sure loves hanging with these guys!
