Evanston Day 4

We left Evanston early and headed up the Mirror Lake Highway on the way home. This time, we were sure we were going to see that moose, or at least a mountain goat. With that in mind, we stopped at the Mt. Baldy hike. This one starts at 11,000 feet and climbs up over 12,000 feet. The hike is only 1.4 miles up and 1.4 miles back down, but they are seriously steep miles.

Mom loved that there were still wildflowers up here.

And she was impressed with these black pine cones.

The views were so pretty.

Seth was such a trooper on this steep hike.

The fires made it a little smoggy, but you could see for miles.

Mark wasn't feeling great. He'd been sick all week, and though he's usually 50 yards ahead of us on the trail, this time, we weren't sure he was going to make it. Seth plodded on using Dad's "elephant steps" that slowly and steadily got him to the top. Eventually, we all made it to the top, even though that last ridge was not the last ridge so many times! Dax was so far ahead of us that I never got a picture of him on this trail. The view at the top was amazing, and we could see 30 lakes or other small bodies of water throughout the Uintas.

Mark and Mom took it slow!

More flowers for Mom to enjoy!

Mark and Mom spotted two different pika. It was awesome!
Making it up this steep trail.

Seth was climbing all over!

We did it!

Mom and Dad hope to be able to hike forever.

Climbing back down.

The walk back down was easy, though our toes hurt from being pushed to the end of our shoes on the steep trail. What hurt the most was that Hi Mountain Drug, our favorite restaurant in Kamas had an hour wait for lunch! We ended up at a diner down the street, which turned out great. But we made it home safely and managed to unpack 45 fossils!

The only pic I have of Dax today. We were laughing at how fast he was devouring his salad.
